Bluetooth enable
Hello, I am new to this forum, my last Mercedes was a 89 300E, a great car.l am about to purchase a 2007 CLK 550 convertible with 74K. I have decoded the vin and found that it has option code 387 Mobile pre install . What will I have to purchase/install to make the car Bluetooth enabled?
I will take ownership next Friday and can't wait to enjoy driving a torque monster V8 .
It is neither easy nor inexpensive. Unless you have the actual installed mount in your center console, which is fairly rare, then all you have is some wires. Most of us have the wires. But they are connected to nothing, and it takes more than the puck. It's all about $1,000 plus labor. Get an aftermarket solution. Tons of threads on this you can search. If you are lucky enough to have the installed mount, then you only need the puck. You'll know just by looking in your center armrest.
Code 387 is just the "pre-wiring" which means the car is ready for the $1000 worth of other parts to activate the phone. There are some aftermarket solutions. I have the mCar unit in mine - $350, plug and play in place of the CD changer, and you get iPod/USB interface.
Is there any way to play music through the factory installed bluetooth system, or is it only good for making phone calls.
I just go the car last night, so I'm still in the learning phase, and haven't found the right section in the manual yet.

The previous owner has this connected to the OEM iPod connector, and it can streaming fine.
Look in the glove box. If you have iPod integration kit, there should be a black cable coming out of the trim on the right side. Mine has a white 30 pin connector (the old one, before Apple changed to the smaller Lightning connector), but I think some cars have a black connector.
Either way, from what I understand, there are three options to make the iPod connection kit work:
1) if you have an old enough iPod/iPhone, you can just plug it in and it plays music and charges.
2) if you have a newer iPod/iPhone, and want a wired connection, you need one of those voltage conversion kits to make it work (Scosche passPORT) and 30 pin to Lightning converter plug, if you have an iPod/iPhone with the Lightning connector. That's the only way to get them to charge as well as play music.
3) if you want a wireless (Bluetooth) connection, use the above mentioned ViseeO Tune2air 1000.
How do I make this plug wireless? I used Bluetooth adapter but this is pita every time you get in the car to turn it on. It is more than just opening of glovebox.
You would want the power to be keyed, so not sure if you'd actually go to the engine bay.
I'm used to working on older cars, it wouldn't be a problem now.
Just owned my CLK for a few weeks, so not too familiar with them yet.
I don't know for sure because I haven't tried, but I believe there is a Bluetooth plug that fits the plug of the CD changer.
So if you don't care about the changer, you could remove it ans see if it has the same connector as this:
