Need to replace rear carrier, what else should I buy?

I'm about to have a local mechanic replace my rear carrier/differential. I looked in the wiki but didn't see anything.. My question is: Is there anything else I should replace while I have it off? I want to supply my mechanic with anything he may need. I see in the diagram there is a pinion seal part #024-997-99-47 and axle seals part #025-997-26-47. Both of these are cheap in price, should I get new ones? Is there anything else I should be buying? I thought maybe the axle boots but I don't see them sold, just the full axle part #203-350-53-56 but that goes for $780.

Thanks

Note: I can't believe this is the second benz I had to replace the rear diff on.

whats wrong with if your replacing the whole thing? and if you are replacing it it should have new seals in it. Or are you replacing it with a used one? Then i would do new seals.

I'm changing mine later this month but for performance reasons. There isnt anything else you need to replace. Of course the fluid in it.

Thanks Glixx.. Ya I read your thread about changing the ratio. That's great! As for me this diff is getting louder by the week, it's making a humming noise that gets pretty loud at different speeds. When it first started getting louder I tried changing the fluid but that didn't help. I am replacing it with a used one since a new one is $3000 and a used one is $300. If anyone else needs one or any other used parts I have a local junk yard that has tons of used parts for our cars and they ship anywhere. http://www.nationwideautorecycling.com/

Question, is there any tricks to getting the diff out in shorter time? For example not taking the control arms apart to get the axles out? I guess I'm just wondering if I can take the axles out and drop the diff without doing all the other work at the outer end of the axles.

My last car, a C230, I actually took a big chunk out of the pinion gear, it wasn't pretty.

Yea your bearings are shot. Are you using the correct fluid?
Honestly haven pulled mine yet to know if there is a better short cut.

I dont know if you already purchased one but also check this company out. www.lkq.com they are a national company and ship anywhere also and give good warranties on their stuff. They are the only place i purchase used parts from

And yes i would replace all the seals when installing it.

It's possible the wrong stuff or cheap stuff got put in. Quite a while ago I had a garage change the fluid and I wasn't smart enough to ask them to put good stuff in. I bet they put some standard gear oil from some big jug in. I changed it two months ago when I first noticed it getting louder, at that time I put in GL-5 rated BG752. This time I bought the Valvoline VV831 from amazon.

More than likely a pinion bearing. Just replace the bearing.

Just replaced the rear diff with a used one. Had an indy do it, everything went well. The actual time it took was right in line with book time (7.5hrs). There are no shortcuts, you do actually have to take off the outer ends (at the wheels) in order to get the axels out witch adds time. I was hoping there was a way to take the diff out without having to take apart the outer ends. Oh well, I have a nice quiet car again spending ~$900 parts and labor. That beats the $3000 at the dealer.
