Parking Brake Shoes Replacement
So I'm out driving yesterday with the top down and I hear a scraping noise at slow speeds, coming from the right rear. I get home and check it out and find that one of the drum brake shoes used for the parking brake has failed. The medium detached from the metal shoe. How bizarre is that? Oh well, at least it wasn't expensive - about $45 for new shoes, springs and all order from rmeuropean.

I put the new shoes on today. The job is easy enough if you know the tricks. I was cleaning everything and checking the drums (inside the rotors) and found cracks in them. I didn't take a photo, but the cracks run across the surface of the drum "radially". There are two cracks, about 180-degrees apart, on both sides. The cracks extend into the cooling fins that sit between the drum and rotor surface. It concerns me that this could become a failure point, so I think I am going to replace the rear rotors. I put Frozen Rotors on the fronts, so I probably match them on the back.
Oh, and I found the brake media on all four shoes was in really bad shape. It was all hardens and brittle and shipped away easily.

Well, when I use to track or a/x cross my car.
I was scolded not to put on the emergency brakes as it would warp or worse crack the rear rotors.
Sure enough, when I replaced my shoes on my 911, it had cracks on the rear rotors. Drove like that for years without issue. but a year ago, I changed all rotors so they are good now so I practice not using the e-brake when I am on a long drives with allot of stops or after fun runs.
No longer ax/track so that will not be an issue :-(
