CLK240 in Limp Mode & Won't Change Gears :(
Hi there,
Turned my car on today (2004 CLK240 Auto) to find the car in limp mode (no warnings on the dash). It doesn't display what gear the car is in of if it's in P, D, N or R.
Once the car is in drive, neural places the car back in drive and I can't physically get the vehicle into reverse or park unless i turn it on and off again.
Spoke to a Mercedes/BMW specialist and he plugged it into his computer. He said the transmission module requires replacement however he then said it is only sold as a set (including the gear lever and the module). I then requested the part numbers form him to see if i could find one online.
The numbers he gave me are as follows:
209 545 23 32 and A203 267 91 24.
However, when I search these numbers I only get this:
http://www.ebay.ie/itm/03-2009-Merce...gAAOSwWTRWx5Tr
or this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MERCEDES-W...-/331043944360
The only reason i'm asking is he wants $1800 for the part from Mercedes and I believe i could find one cheaper than that.
Can any of you guys advise me on what the part that needs replacement actually is? My VIN is 2093612F116624
Any help would be great!

Don't quote on this, but since your car is a 2004, you are probably dealing with a bad transmission conductor plate. It's basically a plastic board that holds the transmission's solenoid and it's known to go bad on 2003-2004 CLKs.
In addition, the pilot bushing connector could leak transmission fluid into the Transmission Control Unit (TCU) which might cause this behaviour as well.
The gear lever definitely does not need to be replaced, so I'm not sure what why he's saying that.
Can you have the car connected to STAR SDS and have the codes pulled out and posted here for us to be able to help you with better precision?
When this happened with my car, the generic error code I was getting was P0715.

Guys,
Thanks for your help. We ended up replacing the shifter and cleared the codes and all is fine now.
The part number we replaced was A2032679124 if anybody else faces a similar problem.
Regards
