CLK 270 2003-2004 auto/manual fuel consumption

Hello there.

I have a question. Who consumes more fuel is it 2003-2004 CLK 270 with auto or manual?
And what would be the biggest difference between auto and manual? Are there any more problems in a specific one?

My auto 2004 270 cdi 40-45mpg medium traffic, Motorway I get 50+mpg very easy, the best ive seen is 64mpg I could easily beat that on a longer run.

My 2005 manual 270 cdi I got 42mpg combined, but that was with a VERY heavy right foot and 'racy' driving style. On a long motorway run at 70mph I could attain 58mpg.

My current 2007 220cdi auto is poor. I'm averaging 29mpg, in the city/suburbs I'll get about 23mpg, on a run best I can get is 46mpg at 50, 45mpg at 70.
And that is with a much calmer driving attitude in my newer auto than I had in my older 270 manual.

270cdi really is an excellent unit.
