Disconnecting the battery will cause no problems with the immobilizer. This chip soldering is a bit outside of my knowledge base, but I suspect that is the source of your problems.

I can't promise that those parts will be plug-and-play. Also, without the matching instrument cluster (or a new virgin cluster) you'll lose the odometer.

The EIS, instrument cluster and steering lock are all tied together. My knowledge of this is more "official" so I can't help much when it comes to cobbling together used parts. Many of these are configured so once they are initially coded to the vehicle, they can't be moved to another vehicle. Of course where there's a will, there's a way. For example, there are tricks to swapping out instrument clusters, such as swapping the EEPROMs or even zeroing the miles on the donor's EEPROM. None of this is easy, and not very well documented, but "possible".
