2005 CLK Fuel Filter Line Questions
Hello,
I have a 2005 CLK 320 Coupe, I know fuel filter replacement has been covered here already, I'm not asking for assistance with the location or replacement procedure. I have replaced my fuel filter which is located in front of the rear left wheel. My question is this, is there supposed to be fuel pouring out of all 4 fuel lines? The pump, tank, and mot lines I understand, however I have fuel pouring out of my can line as well. I found a video on another fuel filter replacement on YouTube and the guy states if you have fuel in your can line which he states a a fuel pressure regulator the filter is bad and needs to be replaced. I have a constant supply of fuel flowing out of that line when disconnected form the filter. Would someone be able to clarify if fuel is supposed to be in all 4 fuel lines connected to the filter?
One other question is the filter before or after the fuel pump? is the hose labeled pump from or to the pump? The hose labeled mot is the filtered supply line to the engine, and the hose labeled tank is the return back to the tank, while hose labeled can is going or coming from what? The can port on the filter is the one with the bump on it
Thank you,
-Scott

Out Of Control!!
What I can say is that the filter has an intergral fuel pressure regulator---fuel come in and the excess is returned to the tank. On the forward side a line goes to the fuel rail. A second line comes from what you call the MOT\fuel tank and goes back to the tank----all four lines are clamped when replacing!!
All four lines will have fuel in them!!
Now forget about all the HS you saw and read----what is your issue!!

I had fuel from all four lines and one line just kept on coming. Pressure regulator is in the filter as mentioned above. The pump is in the tank so it goes pump filter engine. The pump line comes from the pump to the filter.

Thank you both for the information, I did clamp all 4 fuel lines using fuel injection clamps with the smooth bands all around to not pinch any of the lines. The original CLIC clamps I was unable to reuse due to not having the correct hose clamp pliers so I purchased some original clamps form the dealer and they appear to be too small to clamp the lines. It wasn't until today when I received the new clamps and AST Pliers that I discovered the new replacement clamps not fitting so I just reinstalled the fuel injection clamps I had used previously.
Also if interested and not in violation of the forum rules I can post a link to the video I watched from BenzWerks who states there should be vacuum only in that can (pressure regulator line) again not saying that your wrong or the video is correct and I appreciate the assistance. As for any issues so far I have had none nor do I expect any just was curious since watching that video.
Thank you
