Depending on the offset and width of your wheels along with the height of your car, that size should work. If you're lowered, that's a different story.

Also depends on the brand of tires you plan of using. Some tires run slightly wider than others, when the same exact sizes are being compared. (E.g. - Michelin are naturally wider than Falken, Toyo, etc.)

When you say you like the look a little better, a little better than what? A 550 uses 225/40 and 255/35, so you would have the same width, but are increasing sidewall height by 5%, or about exactly half an inch front and rear. I don't know if my tires are only 1/2" from rubbing anything in radius. In width yes - a half inch would hit the strut towers, but not sure about radius. You like fatter sidewalls?

I have those size tyres (225-40 and 235-35) on 18s......don't think going to 45 profile on the front would fit. My tyres only miss the underside of the front spring seats by about 1/2 an inch....any bigger and it would be touch and go whether they would hit .

thanks all looks like if I go to 18 have to stick with 40 and 35. Appreciate the help. Yidney yep actually like the LITTLE more sidewall look. if theres only a half inch or so room the tire size calculators say I need 1-1.3 inches, wont work at all. Thank all again

our car has 285/35/18 on back and 245/40/18 on front and it lowered. The only issue is if you hit a real big dip the front tire is a little bigger circumference so it hits the inner liner barely. Those sizes have been on for over a year and it has just made a shiny spot on the liner. But i have our rear offset set perfectly to not rub on the 285's
