W209 Suspension and Steering Mods
I have a clk550 coupe. I just bought h&r front and rear sways, front chasis brace, and front and rear strut brace. I'm also adding coilovers, adjustable camber arms etc. oh and much fatter tires with new forged wheels. My steering is some bull****. Super light, not much feel. I know these mods are going to tighten it up but is there anyways to get rid of the electric assist for heavier steering? Its my biggest gripe right now. I drove a clk350 cab and it had a more connected, heavy, good on center feel. All responses welcome. Will make a nice build thread soon

Since I don't drive many different cars I can't help much with a technical compare. My springs, sways, and about 1.5 years later bilstein sport shocks for lowered vehicles took much of the "softness" out of the handling and the steering feel. I let a friend, who drives SUVs, drive mine once and he commented that he could feel even pebbles on the road... ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
The front end doesn't handle curves as well as I would like (understeer). I have a tower brace but haven't made the time to put it on... I'm hoping it will keep the inner tires more in contact with the road on sharp turns.... look forward to your thread.

The parameter steering (or SPS - speed-sensitive power steering) on the CLK550 does make it feel over-assisted. It's not electrically assisted steering, though. It uses the same hydraulically assisted power steering system as other vehicles. What is different is that is uses a control valve to adjust the amount of assist based on speed and steering wheel position. The valve is right at the point where the steering wheel shaft enters the rack. There is a solenoid on it that controls the hydraulic fluid flow. It's connected to the ESP control module, so I don't believe there is a fuse that can be remove to disable it. You could try unplugging it's wiring harness there at the solenoid to see if that works.
