Ashtray light

The wood (or metal) panel on the center console is held in place with spring clips. You can open the ashtray and pull up firmly on the leading edge to remove it. You actually don't need to fully remove it to access the ashtray module - just lift it up so you can access the two plastic clips on the ashtray module. Unclip them and the ashtray slides out of the console.

I cant remember what size it is but i do remember mine wasn't burnt. The metal contacts had developed some corrosion and weren't passing current. Some conductive grease solved mine, didn't change the bulb.

yup. all the clks have an ashtray light. It lights up the lighter itself and there is an opening in the ashtray that lets light into the ashtray itself too. Also i Think all US CLKs have an ambient light in the mirror which is most likely burnt out. If you look at the bottom of the interior mirror and see a hole and no light then thats burnt out too. I replaced that bulb and fixed the ashtray bulb in my clk.

Nope, its an ambient light its on whenever ignition is on. Gives a nice amber glow to the interior. Stock its an ancient filament bulb with a yellow condom. You could replace it with another filament bulb just be careful removing the yellow condom from the old bulb as it rips easily, that way you can reinstall it on the new bulb. You could upgrade it to an amber led but make sure its 12v led or ull burn the led bulb, also leds are polarity sensitive so if it doesnt work flip it! Enjoy!

So I'm pretty positive mine is burnt out then, this bulb would be near the garage door opener buttons? How does one access the bulb? Is there a cover or do you seperate the mirror halves?

I do remember i ruined the contacts for the bulb so i used power from the door opener so have a tester around so you test which wire has 12v power that you can tap into, ground would be the black or brown wire next to the positive 12v.

The ash tray bulb is a 74 bulb. Any autoparts store will have it. Or change it to an LED.
Keep in mind however if you change it to an LED it will most likely be nice white while the rest of the dash is that horrible amber color that we have. (still don't understand why MB didn't make everything nice white like the gauge cluster)
I replaced mine a year ago and it was a PITA.. definitely doable for anyone, but it's a tight fit with the bulb and clicking it in.
The bulb should be $2 at most.
