Installing HID in the fog lights makes you Not a Cool Dude™ ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Edit: Not to be off topic or come across as picking a fight... I live in a country where at least 70% of headlights are not aligned. Every single rice craphead has kit HID headlights, the real cool ones have HID fog lights. I can tell you that it's f*d up. I know all the arguments people make. If you don't see this kind of thing very often in the states (or where you live), just appreciate what you have.

In that case, I can tell you that you definitely do not want HIDs in your fog lights. The reflector housing will scatter the light way too much to be useful in fog. I'd stick with good halogen bulbs.

Definitely. I see a couple Mercedes cars (and a lot of other brands) when I'm walking around the neighbourhood and the beam pattern on the road is horrific - nothing close to usable light. As Rudeney said, HID in a headlight designed for halogen will never produce results as good as filament bulbs.
I got the Osram Fog Breakers (yellow in colour) for my fogs and I'm very disappointed with them. As opposed to 3000K HID, these bulbs put out yellow light only because of the yellow filter, but I expected them to bump the output in order to compensate for the lost light. Instead, I just got 1/3 of the light. I'm ditching them and getting the Philips Xtreme Vision +130%.
I can post comparison photos of the Osram, the Philips (when I get them later this week) and a generic bulb if that will be any help.

Have you not read the above replies? A HID in your fog will not be as usable in the fog as a good filament in the projector designed for filament bulbs.

The best lights I had in a car were the quad-projector headlights from "Fishcake" in my CLK. I put HID kits on both low and high beams. The only downside was using the high-beams for flashing as the HIDs took a few seconds to warm up to full brightness. The upside that it was like driving a football stadium down the road.

Bi-xenon systems use a movable shutter that lifts to "open up" the beam pattern. The "Fishcake" DEPO headlights are just two pairs projectors. The outer low beams have fixed shutters for a proper cut-off pattern. The inner projectors have no shutter so they project a full beam pattern. Here's my thread showing my installation:
