NO LONGER ACTIVE
Someone gave ma a cheap one for Christmas, but I have not had time to install it. In fact, I am hesitant to install it. Around here, cops have been known to take electronic devices such as dash cams, dash-mounted GPS units, and even cell phones as "evidence" to prove their case in court for traffic stops. I don't need to give them any more evidence of my occasional "spirited driving".

Actually, I'd rather have a set of cameras that record when I'm parked to see which idiots in my office building are dinging my doors and bumping my fenders!

I use my GoPro. I generally only mount it when taking long road trips. It's main purpose however was not to use as a dash cam.

I'm using a BlackVue DR650. It's 2 cameras (front and rear). Take a look at dashcamtalk.com for actual reviews. I've used cheaper cameras and some work well, some not so much.

I think it's indispensable nowadays as most people lie about what happened when the cops show up. The good ol days of taking responsibility for your stupid actions are long gone

I have really noticed all of the people..young and older that are texting as they are driving.
At a red light last week, a couple in the lane next to me were both on their phones. When the light changed, the guy driving propped the phone up on the steering wheel, and was tap dancing with his thumps on that phone..doing 55mph. I took the next road to get away from that guy.
That's why Ive got the dash cam..

Aloha,

I looked into a 360 type system but it appears to be not mature enough at its current state. Perhaps in a year or two.

But for now, I have a Viofo A129 (front and rear) camera system I installed a couple of weeks ago.

Very happy with it so far with ease of installation and use especially having a mobile app to view not only the recordings but also real time what the cameras see.

Nice benefit of having the rear camera is one can use it as a backup camera.

I will hardwire it in the coming days so that I can take advantage of its parking mode features.

I chose one with a rear camera since I noticed that a good proportion of dashcam videos posted online are of folks getting rear ended due to driver inattention ... e.g., folks texting while driving.

Mahalo.
