From a technological standpoint, regarding 550 models, some following I've noticed when I researched purchasing one:
07-08: ABC hydraulic suspension (can be unreliable and very costly to repair)
09: 4matic awd standard and air suspension (much more reliable and less costly)
10: Same as 09 with updated tech i.e. integrated bluetooth, ipod, SD card
11-14: Twin turbo v8 engine, facelifted body with LEDs
So if you are looking between 10-14, note the 2010 model (unless in Europe I think) is still the prefacelift model with 5.5L N/A V8 in the US.
Best to look over in the W216 forum as Rudeney said since they are very complicated vehicles compared to the W209.

ABC can be high-maintenance, but I think it's worth it. It is an amazing suspension. Sport mode gives you absolutely flat cornering and quick handling response with being punishing, while non-sport give you an S-Class ride. It really is too bad that it isn't more reliable, but you get what you pay for.
