CLK (w209) electronic boot/trunk release hassle

Hi all!

I have recently picked up a 2004 CLK (W209) with quite a few little issues here and there but i have been able to overcome and fix these mostly by reading the threads on this great site for solutions. I have one outstanding issue that nothing i have read has solved and trust me i have tried them all so i was hoping someone could save my sanity...

I have the issue that the electronic boot release does not work, this applies to both the drivers door button and the key fob. The mechanical mechanism is fine and i can open using the key with no problems so it is not a major issue just a frustration that i am desperate to solve.
When the button/s are pressed there is a clear clicking sound coming from the boot mechanism so the connection between the fob and button is working but there is no sound of a motor or anything else other than this click noise. The things i have tried already:

1.Changed the spring tension
2.adjusted the plastic bumpers on either side of the release mechanism
3.checked for obvious broken wires behind boot lining
4.checked all fuses, 8,21 were the ones for the boot release i think?
5.Soaked the mechanism in WD40 and ensured it is nice and loose

So i have a working boot release mechanism with electronic connection both remotely and from the driver button but neither of the latter two will actually release the mechanism.

If anyone has any suggestions i would be super grateful

There is a part inside the latch that is broken. You can get a new latch for under $100 (that is here in the USA - not sure where you are).

Ok, so the latch mechanism needs replacing. Better get looking at the breakers yards.
thanks

Yes, the whole thing. Personally, I'd get a new one so I didn't have to deal with a used one breaking as this seem to be a common problem on these. Like I said, here in the USA, it's about $100.

Financial resources for this are super tight so i will have to gamble on a used one and hope it holds out but i totally agree that new one would be the smarter move but 2 kids, the wifes shoes and and a greedy BMW M3 takes up all the expendable income and this is the project on a budget lol.
I just took out the old mechanism on a trial run and seems like a really easy job
Thanks!
