Post Automatic transmission replacement - which code ?

Hi,

I'm planning automatic transmission replacement in my CLK240 w209 (2002). As I know on housing we have some numbers.

For ex.
2032701100 - this is part number
722696 0 - this is type. Where two last digits (96) it's a type of siutable engine. In may case it's 2.6 V6.
386493 - propably it's a serial number

Question is which number can fit to my 2.6 V6 engine?

What I should to know when I want do this. Any problems, hints? What about adaptation?

You got it - 722.696. The rest of the number is the serial number. I'd probably go ahead and replace the torque converter with a good rebuilt unit. I might go ahead and replace the rear main engine seal, too, while your down there working. When you have everything in place and ready to mate the bell housings, it is IMPERATIVE that everything fits perfectly. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT "pull in" the unit with the bell housing bolts - if there are any misalignments and you do that it WILL damage things like the transmission fluid pump and/or the engine flywheel.

Okay, what is the difference between for ex. 722.696 and 722.699? Why we can't mix them?

722.699 is for the diesel engines. I am not sure what differences it has, but maybe different gearing or torque handling?
