replacing positive battery cable?
So, my fiance's '07 CLK550 has a handful of issues, and the first one I need to address as it seems to be affecting all other systems is a faulty battery cable. The negative has been replaced and the battery is brand new. But, the positive is all corroded and I've no idea how far down the corrosion goes, but the fuse box terminals seem to be clean. For peace of mind, I hope to just replace the entire cable going in both directions, which leads me to my question....
The portion going to the fuse panel looks really easy, but the other portion goes up and over the divider and down the engine in between the firewall and from there I can't see where it goes. Also, the cheapest I've been able to find this cable in its entirety is about $110. So, is this something that I can do myself if I have a way to get under the car and can I forego the stock cable and just provide my own cable, hopefully a thicker gauge, and terminals? Any help would be appreciated as this fix is imminent because it's causing other issues.

NO LONGER ACTIVE
The battery positive lead goes three places - the pre-fuse box (the black box just ahead of the battery with the red cap on it where you can connect the positive jumper cable), the starter and the alternator. Personally, for $110, I'd buy the OE part as it will fit better ad has the correct lugs on it.
