Intermittent Trunk Latch Closure
So the trunk latch in my 2008 CLK 350 does this weird thing now. Car unlocked, trunk opened by internal trunk release button, trunk opens fine, but on odd occasions, without hitting the lock button or anything, latch moves to locked position, so when you shut the trunk it won't latch, bounces back up and may damage the latch mechanism...
Anyone run into this yet? Is a really weird thing... hitting the unlock again re-opens the latch, but the lock was never hit to cause it to lock while open... and it is totally random. Happened twice a week ago, within an hour of each time, and happened once two days ago, but no other time... have opened the trunk maybe 20 times in the past month and it has happened 3/20.

The only thing I can figure is that the latch mechanism is defective. Maybe a spring inside is broken, allowing the tang to fall back into the locked position.

Yeah, it seems to not have a problem 90% of the time... is just really weird, like the locks somehow think they are being re-locked... when they aren't.
