Command replacement - Most converter to use existing Amp. No sound
#26
I can only see harnesses for non-amplified systems on axxess's website, like the AX-ADXSVI-MB2.
To keep the HK amp, there must be a MOST module that converts RCA to fibre optic.
I am sure your car is the same. Did you perhaps bypass the amp and wired the speakers to the aftermarket radio, using the built in amp?

So here is my update. It's good!
We used this harness, http://www.connects2.co.uk/Product/P...tem/CTSMC008.2 , which comes with the MOST box to convert the stereo RCA to optical fibre, and EVERYTHING worked great!
My steering wheel controls, parking censors and HK sound system work fine!
I have to say, the sound quality is really high, I think it sounds a bit better than before. The only "problem" is that fade is no longer possible, but I dont really care. At all.
I also hooked up a retropie to the HDMI port and played some games as I waited for the kids to finish their class. 100% Wicked!
Here are some pics of the radio installed, the fascia is also from connects2: http://www.connects2.co.uk/Product/ProductItem/CT23MB04 . It is really nice looking, well made and has a slight rubber coating to make it "soft" to the touch.
Cheers!

Hi Jason,
I have 2009 CLK350 HK system - would like to replicate what you did since it works for you. I am not looking for ear shattering sound - just a good system with updated technology. Could you kindly list, sorry if it is repetitive, everything I would need to order - including the head unit.
I do have a question, on the Pioneer, where do you plug in the USB from your phone or is it 100% Bluetooth?
Thanks,
Glen

Hi Glen,
I went with the Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX head unit as it supports wireless apple carplay and android auto, so there is no need to have your phone connected unless you want to charge it.
The USB cables are routed to the glovebox, and there is a little opening you can channel them in from, so no need to trim/cut anything. I have 2 USB ports and an HDMI in cable sitting in the glove box.
To install this head unit and retain the HK system, you only need the two parts I mentioned from connects2.
1) http://www.connects2.co.uk/Product/P...tem/CTSMC008.2
2) http://www.connects2.co.uk/Product/ProductItem/CT23MB04
The harness is not cheap, but it works really well and the sound quality is as good as with the OEM radio, if not slightly better. No hiss or any other issues. Also, the steering wheel controls still work. The only thing that does not work is front/rear fade as the harness only takes a stereo RCA input and the audio info does not appear on the instrument cluster.
I paid USD 549 for the headunit (on sale at bestbuy.com), and $600 CANADIAN at the shop that supplied the harness and did the installation. The face plate was about $60 USD shipped from ebay.
Hope this helps

Hi Jason,
Thank you very much. Fade in the cab is not an issue and I rarely look at the instrument cluster for radio info. Does Sirius/XM work without any other antenna (still uses original set-up)?
BTW...where are you located - I see you referenced $CDN. I am originally from Toronto...living 45 miles south of Chicago
Thanks,
Glen

Hi Glen,
I dont have Sirius XM, but the Pioneed headunit can accept an add-on module for Sirius XM that will then work with it. More $$$ but should be really straight forward.
I live in Toronto, your home town
Greetings fellow Canadian!

Jason

Hi Jason,
Can't find a dealer in the US for the harness. Sent an e-mail to the company in the UK - no response.
Question - do you only lose radio controls on the steering wheel or all the functions?
Thanks,
Glen

Hi Glen,
You don't lose anything. All buttons still work on the steering wheel.
The only thing you lose is the front/rear fade ability and the audio info in the instrument cluster display.
That's it.
Thanks,
Jason
