08 350 CLK camshaft death, HELP PLS
Just got the cam plugs changed on my CLK that fixed the oil leak. Tks rodney. Still have the CEL light on. My MB mechanic said that he cant turn off. The error codes are:
1. P0016 Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation
Bank 1 Sensor A
2. P0017 Crankshaft Position -Camshaft Position Correlation
Bank 1 Sensor B
3. P2006 Intake manifold Runner Control Stuck Closed Bank 1
My mechanic says he can't get the CEL to turn off and he doesn't have the tools to fix the camshaft problem. He said that it will eventually start to miss and then total engine failure. His suggestion is to replace the motor.
This camshaft problem was the reason I bought a 2008 to avoid this problem. I talked to the MB Service Manager in Denver and he said that this problem was VERY rare in a 2008. Evidently mine is an early 2008 with a leftover 2007 engine? Vin# WDBTK56F08T0898528
Found a used 2009 motor in florida 61k miles for $2,000. But they had a video showing the dash while running and the CEL light was on with that motor too. I already have a motor with the CEL light on.
Love the car, hate the camshafts.
Any and all helpful suggestions will help.
I can get a camshaft sensor module for $150.00. But I really don't think that will fix the problem.
What to do?????????
Thanks all in advance.

That one has M272 engine #675246, which is way beyond the range for balance shaft failure. It's not a "leftover" engine. Of course it's always possible that the idler sprocket or timing chain is failing due to a different, non-chronic problem.
Personally, I'd get myself a scan tool that reads MBZ-specific DTCs, such as iCarsoft i980. P0016 and P0017 are generic OBDII codes that can each reprsent four different DTCs. See here:

I'd verify it's DTCs 1200 and 1208 before doing anything else. If it is the sprocket that is failing, it will be a while before it causes any real issues. The main concern would be that it's a bad chain, and if so, that could break and cause catastrophic engine failure.
