hi i have 2004 mercedes clk 240 with 16 inch alloys and i have bought 17 inch alloys of a 2009 c class and i went to have them fitted and the garage said i need spacers any idea what size?

You need to know the offset of the wheels. If both sets are original MB wheels they will probably have a number stamped inside one of the spokes. Front and rear will be different. The number will say something like ET35. If your old wheels were 35, and the new ones are 45, then you need a 10mm spacer to have them sit the same as the original. But there is some wiggle room.

And I should add that what I said applies only if the new wheel are the same width as the old. If they are wider, then you need to account for that too. Your spacers may need to be as thick as the difference in offset + 1/2 the difference in increased width. In practice, it depends on how much clearance you actually have.
