2009 CLK 350
does this damage the top??
the only way I know to clean this back window, is stop the open cycle in mid cycle, and clean that window.
any other ideas?

No worries - that's the way I would do it, too. I;d also stop the lid in the upright position so I could wash it and have the soap and water run off and keep the trunk dry.
