Tilting side mirror in reverse = useless

I just read someone in another thread complaining that the tilting function on the passenger side mirror is useless. Well I happen to agree.

Anyone here have a W208 before they got their W209?
I used to use that tilting mirror option all the time in my old CLK430. I found it very useful and easy to see what was behind me.
Now with my W209 CLK55 when I use that tilting mirror option I find it very hard to see anything behind me!! All I see is pavement. How can this feature change so much from model to model? I never have it on (passenger side button pushe in) because I feel it hurts rather than helps.

Any comments on this?

I only use it to avoid hitting the curb.

try adjusting the position; I'm pretty sure it's not fixed. Have you tried reading the manual to see what it says about adjusting the mirror?

The tilting passenger mirror was never designed to allow the driver to see the vehicle behind. Use your rear view interior mirror, your judgement and parktronic if it is fitted. The tilting mirror was designed to prevent striking the wheel against the curb. The position can be adjusted.

Push the passenger side adjustment button down. Wait for the mirror to move/tilt. Then adjust it to the position you want. Thats it.

I guess my point was that this feature was great in the W208...now it just plain sucks. Was wondering if anyone noticed this as well?

I just think it could be dangerous especially when you're keeping an eye on the pavement, you kinda forget what you're backing up into.

Can you please explain what made it "great" in the W208 and what's so different in the W209 that it now "sucks"?

I don't get what your problem with it is. It was designed to see the curb, NOT behind you (as someone already said). Yet and still, you can adjust it to see wherever you want.

I think it works fine.

If you want it to continue to stay in the normal position when you're in reverse, you just leave the interior adjustment electronic switch set to the driver mirror. It's only when you have the button set for passenger adjustment that it tilts down. But again, it's all in the manual...

Read the manual, you can set it however you want. Just program it to see behind you and when you hit reverse it will move to that remembered position.

Dude u are wrong...

U see, when the mirror tilts down initially when u buy the car, it goes really to far down. When it is in that position, u can adjust it anyway u want. From that point on, it will always go to that position when u put it in reverse. It is exactly like the 208
