2004 CLK320 Cabriolet
Mystery Wires in Trunk
This is my first post to the forums as I just purchased 2004 CLK320 Cabriolet. While looking in the trunk I found a small compartment with a flip up door located just below the first aid kit on the right side of the trunk. When I looked inside I see some 4 wires that still have the protective factory foam covering them. One of them looks to be a coax and one is a black rectangle kind of a shape with maybe 5 or so pins in it. The other 2 are both orange wires with what looks like red and green looking lights on them. They may not be lights as they never lit, but it looks like it could. Does anyone know what these wires are for? Could it be prewiring for Sirius XM?
Thanks in advance,
Rick Gourley

My car has every option, including Sirius, and I have numerous wires and fiber optic cables on that side that end in foam ***** and go to nothing. I'm not totally sure why. Maybe they use the same wiring harness for several cars, or still have wires for things that changed.

For a MY2004, it won't be Sirius as that was not an option. It could, however, be for the optional cell phone interface. Also, as Yidney mentions, they use some "generic" wiring harnesses that are for different model cars where various options are in different places.

According to the owners manual Sirius was an option for the 2004 CLK320. There is a whole chapter in the Comand manual about. Also, I did a VIN search and it returns a line item saying Prewire Sirius.
Thanks,

Rick, I can tell you with 100% certainty, that a USA MY2004 does not have an option for Sirius. MY2004 used the older D2B fiber optic system. MBZ only offered Sirius with the MOST fiber system that was introduced for MY2005 as part of the "facelift" The pre-facelift head units themselves did not have the option to for "SAT".

Which raises the question of whether you really have a 2004, or at least a USA 2004. It's easy to tell the difference between a pre and post facelift car by the shape of the center console buttons. Look at pictures online of like a 2006 CLK350. Are your buttons rectangular like that?
Edit: Or I should say "square."

It was something they planned for but did not implement until the facelift switches to the MOST fiber system. Note the "no date for availability" clause in the owner's manual:

Thanks for the info. I missed that line in the manual. I really do love my CLK320 and look forward to reading more of the post on this forum. I lost my car in the recent flood caused by hurricane Harvey, it was a 2014 Ford Fusion Titanium edition. A friend loaned me the CLK320, which he had for sell. After about a week of driving it I was hooked and now it is mine. Never did I think I would be happy with a 13 year old car, but it is in great condition and there is something special about being behind the wheel of a Mercedes. I know I'm preaching to the choir here.
Thanks again,
Rick

With the pre-facelift dash, I think I'd look into an aftermarket radio. They don't look terribly out of place with the wood panel surrounding the opening. There is a slight challenge in doing this. The stock Bose system uses fiber optics from the dash to the amp in the trunk where the analog speaker wiring is located. You have to run your own copper from the dash to the trunk and tie into the analog speaker wiring there.
