Dust coming out of vent

I have a w209 07, clk350

I get big bits of dust coming out of the vent when running the ac\heater. The cabvin air filter on the battery is pretty new (less than a few yrs old). The clips for the filter are broken. So maybe it is not seated properly?

I also read somewhere that there may be other filters that need to be replaced. where do I find them.

Cabin air filters, if properly seated, get dirty real fast. You can smack them against a wall for a while to get the big stuff off, but I would not go past two years. But if you have stuff blowing in, then I think it is not seated correctly because of the broken clips. Check that. As for the other filters, there are two charcoal filters you get to by removing the cover in your passenger foot well below the glove compartment. But those will not be your problem because you probably never use them. Those have to be "turned on" with the button on the right side of your a/c controls. Hardly anybody does. They are meant to filter out bad smells if you are driving by a feedlot or Donald Trump.

thanks man, appreciate the advice. I just learned that the carbon filter exists on this car. I think your theory is correct because when i turn on the carbon the dust stops, though it may be placebo. I think i will just replace both and get a gasket seal for the main filter on the battery. Thanks again.

I would not think the plastic housing that holds your cabin air filter would cost all that much to replace. You could probably get a used one even.

NO LONGER ACTIVE
Yeah, I had to buy that plastic housing for the C240 because it went missing (don't ask - teenager's car). I think I found it under $40 from one of the online discount dealers.
