2005 CLK500 (w209) ALTERNATOR- voltage regulator

Hello, Is it possible just to change out the 'voltage regulator' part on my alternator instead of replacing the whole unit? I tried google but got nowhere.... Thanks- Nicky

Thank you- I thought it would be a possibility seeing how they sell just the "voltage regulator" part of the alternator on Amazon, but I have already called 3 shops locally and none of them do it- they say they used to, but not anymore and just to replace the entire alternator...... I was trying to save some money but it looks like that won't happen now since the shops won't do it. Thank you though!!!

Its not very hard. You dont even have to take it out of the car. The reason they wont do it is there are more parts that could be bad and they cant warranty their work.

NO LONGER ACTIVE
The reason most shops replace the whole thing is because they are buying Chinese remans and that's the way they come. Also, the problem is sometimes a worn pole, which means replacing the whole alternator. Mine on the SL went out and I ended up replacing it with a lifetime warranty Chinese reman unit fro Advance Auto. It was slightly more expensive than ordering the regulator. But this way, I will never pay again.
