Conventional or synthetic?

Which type of motor oil should be used in the 5.0L W209? Will the dealer refill it with synthetic (Mobil 1) oil as the standard practice? I still have 5000 miles left to go until my very first maintenance visit. What service is provided with the initial checkup?

You should get synthetic as that's what's indicated. Check your owners manual/service booklet for the provided service.

and check your owners manual

ALL Mobil synthetics are NOT the same!!!! It has to do with the additive package, not the viscosity or even that it is a synthetic.

The recomended oils are for extended drain intervals with the FSS
