Please remove key and beeping

I just picked up my CLK500 and I love it. I only have one issue. When I turn off the car and open the door a message appears on the center cluster and says “KEY” “Please remove key” and it is followed with a beeping that will not shut off until I close the door.

How do I turn off that beeping?

The car is a 2004 with keyless go, parktronic and COMMAND.

Any help would be great.

Unfortunately, that's something you can't turn off. I know of a person who actually traded the car back in because of that warning beep.

Hit the top left button on your steering wheel. That will turn it off for that very moment. I wish there was a permanent solution. It drives me nuts too.

Keyless Go

Ordering Keyless Go would be one Solution, then you don't have to put the Key into the Lock in the first place....

I know that's no "after buy" solution.... Sry

all you have to do is hit the reset button (R buttton) on your dash, by the instrument cluster, and the beeping will stop. That message is to keep you from leaving your key laying inside the car. Since with Keyless Go, the key does not have to be in the dash, a lot of people left their keys inside and they would lock their key inside.

The car will not let me lock the key inside. If i leave the key on my seat and close door the locks will not go. I have the same configuration with the trunk. I really like the keyless go but the beeping can be a pain.

Yea, but the logic is flawed.

Keyless Go (SmartKey?) should be smart enough to NOT allow you to lock the car with the key in it, thus "alerting" the owner that the key is not in their possession.

Incessant beeping should be reserved for the "low-tech" keys

...and who drives around with the key "laying inside the car". I suppose if it fell out your pocket.

The feature helps prevent you from leaving the key behind when you don't lock the car...as if you did it would be extremely easy for someone to drive away with your car. Some insurance companies will not pay a claim upon recovery if they find you left the keys in the car and it was stolen.
