Engine fault codes and oil leak
Hi everyone, hoping you guys can help me.
I went to see a 2006 Mercedes CLK 350 today. I’m English but I live in Mexico so finding cars in even vaguely decent condition out here is a complete nightmare.
This car drove very well, no noises from the suspension, FSH, Michelins all round etc etc but had an engine warning light on, along with a low oil warning. It was obvious that someone had been topping up the oil regularly.
I noticed an oil leak (picture attached) and read the codes, showing up several faults (picture also attached)
So, do we reckon the engine is toast? It’s half the price of the others which are generally in poorer condition in terms of suspension, bodywork etc. I’m not afraid of taking on a project but equally I don’t have the skills to change an entire engine.
Advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

- The random misfires could be due to faulty/damaged/just old spark plug/ignition coils/wiring. particularly if the car spent most of it's time outside (not garaged).
- The oil seems to be coming from the driver side top. You can inspect the valve cover, filter cap, oil cooler. The filter cap housing can be cracked.
- Things being "stuck" open or closed may be an indication of a very dirty/sludge engine. It may clean up with a couple uses of seafoam and a couple changes of quality oil.
- The camshaft position sensor may be defective.
Maybe other forum members can help with an assessment on whether the engine is "toast".

To clarify, when I said it was running well, I meant the transmission, interior, suspension, interior gadgets etc were in good order. The engine felt down on power but sounded OK. More than happy to change sensors / belts etc, but this sounds beyond my level. I'll keep looking.
Appreciate the help
