Start by putting in a new battery and go from there. If the battery is shorted or completely depleted the jump box will not help at all.

If the battery is shorted, you may not get any power to the car circuits even if it is connected to another battery. It depends on the severity of the short. Perhaps you should get a volt meter and check the voltage of the battery. If it reads 12+ volts your problem could be elsewhere, but not necessarily as a battery reading could be load sensitive in the case of a defective/shorted battery.

You can also disconnect the + side of your battery and see if you at least get instrument and dome lighting with a jumper battery (car or jump-start battery) connected.

If there are still no instrument or dome lights, the problem is likely NOT your battery. I would then look at the power line from the battery to the rest of the car.

my 2 and 1/2 cents worth of opinion......

NO LONGER ACTIVE
The large lead-acid batteries used by MBZ are prone to plate warping. When that happens, the battery often shorts out internally and you won;t be able to jump start it. To test this, disconnect the suspect battery and then try to jump start. If that works, then it's the battery.
