Driver's Side Seatbelt Extender Not Working
My 2007 CLK 350 Coupe has a problem with the seatbelt extender. It started making clicking noises a few months ago and, of course, I ignored it. Now it makes a clicking noise and the arm does not extend. I'm sure there is a nylon gear inside of it that has broken. Before I attempt to take everything apart and screw things up I wanted to see if anyone has a description or, better yet, a video of how to take off the rear interior panel to get to the mechanism.
Does anyone have instructions and a description of the internal mechanism? Is the mechanism sold as a whole part to be replaced or are there separate parts that can be replaced? I'd just like some info so I can take it apart without damaging anything.

There are threads on removing the panel. You can slowly just feed the extender arm out of the motor before you starts just by pulling on it. The mechanism inside is not much. It's a small Bosch motor connected to a small transmission - the gears you are talking about. I'm sure you cannot buy just the gears, and I doubt you can buy the transmission w/o the motor. But check eBay. There are usually some there.
