Lock switch on dash console not working

I have a 2005 CLK 500 cabriolet and am unable to lock the doors from the switch/button on the dash. The unlock switch/button works fine and the doors lock when the car is put into gear. Have checked fuses 20, 21, 41 and 57 and all appear to be good. Have also tried a different switch and got the same results. Any suggestions as to what could be causing this or how to pinpoint the cause of the problem? Appreciate any help. Thank you.

When you say you replaced the button, did you replace the entire upper control panel?

Yes. I took out my control panel and tried another and got the same results. The car will lock while driving, just not from the button on the dash. The unlock button on the dash works fine.

Strange. All the button does is trigger a signal in the upper control panel which then sends a "lock doors" signal over the CAN bus. The only thing I noticed is that the door will not lock if the passenger door is open. There is a plunger switch on the B pillar that should signal that the passenger door is closed, so I'd check that.

Thanks Rodney for the input and info. Was happy to see you were still active regarding the W209 as it had been a while since I had used the forum. Not sure what was the cause of my problem. When I had tested the other console I had bottomed to test I only connected the wiring I thought was needed. I went back and connected all the wires and it worked, as did my old unit. Could have been the passenger door, but not real sure. Fingers crossed it doesn’t happen again. Thanks so much for your time.

Ah, that makes sense. I think one of the connectors that goes to the lower control panel is for the CAN bus.
