2004 clk320 w209. My ambient temp on dash
The temp was 85 and went up to 107 for no apparent reason and just turned off. I towed the car charged the battery but every now and again the temp has gone as high as 102. Any reason for this and if known a fix please

It could be a sensor failure, bad thermostat, blockage int he cooling system, or an electrical problem that is reporting the wrong temp. I'd pull codes to see if anything is stored (even if the MIL is not illuminated).

i had a problem with my sensor... then the new sensor fell out of the holder (tip needs to be in the middle of the hole.) then... the contact was not good. so i replaced the sensor pig tail.
i had same issue, intermittent high temp. then engine light saying my temperature sensor failed. it was annoying.
i would suggest check position and mounting. then possible remove and connect again. if you still get error i would try a new sensor. that is the steps i took.

I second suggestion to check ambient air temp sensor. I had same issue w/ faulty dashboard temp reading. I bought new sensor but upon inspection, the plastic sensor "holster" had broken. I tied the existing sensor using zip ties & all is well.
On a LHD/USA car, the outside temperature sensor is on the passenger side, right behind the fog light. If you look behind the right headlamp, you should find two wiring harnesses going down into the bumper. I believe one is for the fog light and the other is for the temperature sensor.
The sensor sits in a rubber rifle bullet shape that snaps into a grommet in your fog light mesh
