The easiest way to do this is to operate the soft top until both the rear glass and the cover panel and both vertical. Stop it at that point and then access the struts from above. After sitting for a few minutes, the pump will relieve pressure and the rear glass will try to drop so you may want to use something to keep it propped open.

The struts themselves snap onto a ball joint. To remove them, you have to use a small screwdriver to pull out on the metal band on the ends of the strut. It does not need to be removed, just pull out slightly then the strut can be pulled off of the ball joint. The new strut can just be snapped onto the ball joint with a bit of pressure.

I recently replaced the struts with the Tuff Support ones available at RMeropean. They fit fine but they don't consistently supply enough pressure to operate the partition switch. I still need to open the trunk and move the partition cover about half the time. Maybe the struts will work better in time but right now I'm thinking the more expensive struts may be worth the price.

Anyone happen to have the part number for these struts? And are these the ones that put pressure on the partition? Like GaryVC I have to pull on the partition a little bit every time I want to open the top.

The only info I have is for RMeuropean. I searched for "partition strut" and got a couple of matches. One was for Tuff Support which has been problematic for me, another was for Stabilus at twice the price but possibly worth it. The RMeuropean number for the Stabilus part is 2096900059. I'm considering putting those on my birthday list.
