Please take a moment to visit the User Control Panel and update your profile to include your location (at least country). This information will then appear below your name and avatar on the left side panel next to each post you make. This will greatly help others to give you better information. If you are using the mobile version of the site, you will need to switch to the "full" version to get to the User Control Panel.
The head unit is the audio gateway controller. Why are you looking for this? Are you trying to solve a particular problem?

So you are installing an aftermarket radio that instructs you to plug into the "audio gateway controller"? Like i said, the factory head unit is that. Maybe what it means is to plug into the analog speaker wiring at the HK amp (in the trunk, left side, above the top hydraulics). Because your car has the HK system, there is no speaker wiring in the dash. It uses fiber optic to send digital sound to the amp which is where the individual analog speaker wiring is located.

Hi Rudenay,
Interesting, maybe this unit is for the Bose system, I have contacted the supplier, I will see what they say?
unless it’s reall well hidden I cant find the amp, do I need to remove the roof hydraulic pump to locate it?
I currently have alot of the convertible roof bay stripped out so I need to reasseble all that to open the trunk and have another look from there?
I really appreciate your help with this so far, thank you,

Hi Rodney,
well as per the instructions I have removed the lid ram, removed the Hydraulic pump and definately no amp?
If you look at the picture where the two amp mounting bolts are there are holes but no bolts no amp?, this is diving me crazy!
With my luck my car is somehow different to standard?
cheers,
Tony

Are you in the USA? (please update your forum profile to include your location, at least country). In the USA, all W209 CLK's came standard with either the Bose (up to MY2004) or Harmon-Kardon (MY2005+) premium sound system. These both used a trunk-mounted amp. If you were not in the USA, then that would have been an option, so your car may not have the amp. In that case, you will have copper speaker wire in the radio harness in the dash.

Hi Rodney,
Ok, it appears that Australian delivered cars had the amp in the head unit, no seperate amp or Audio Gateway.
I have spoken to the suppliers of the stereo, they are sending me a “most box” and a different harness adapter to suit my car’s wiring,
thank you for all your help, we have all learnt something,

In that case, you should not need to connect to the fiber at all unless the unit is going to use the factory CD changer (but you still need to update your forum profile!
).
