Can’t set time
Can’t set time
got a question. My 2009 clk350’s command post doesn’t recognize when the ignition is on or off. If I try to set the time it says to turn ignition on even tho it’s on. Any one know why?
Welcome to the forum! Please take a moment to visit the User Control Panel and update your profile to include your car model and year, and your location (at least country). This information will then appear below your name and avatar on the left side panel next to each post you make. This will greatly help others to give you better information. This could be a wiring issue or a bad COMAND unit. The signaling that has the radio powering on and off with the ignition is via the CAN bus. If there is a problem with that wiring, it will not get those signals. Are you going to DIY this? If so, remove the radio and check the CAN bus wires - the brown pair C1 and C2:

Well the thing is command works and everything. So what happened was I have the Ipod conversation kit installed. The iPod cable was crushed in the door and a friend of mine decided to plug his phone up while the cable was crushed . This made command black out and it didn’t play music for about 30min. Then it powers back on and it works normally . But the fact that it doesn’t show time on the command . Also now the instrument cluster shows this “ - - - “ when I set the instrument cluster to tel or audio . It used to work fine before. Also the Navi seems as if it’s not showing the right gps location(off by a mile)
OK, that is critical new information. The crushed iPod cable likely shorted something out. Hopefully this is just a problem with the iPod interface itself and not the COMAND unit. The iPod interface is a bit of a kludge. To the COMAND unit, the iPod is just a dumb analog AUX audio input. The title/track/playlist display is only on the instrument cluster MFD and control is only via the steering wheel buttons. There are many reasons for this strange functionality, but mainly it's because the COMAND unit was not designed for any external devices like this, but the CAN bus is.
The iPod interface connects to the back of the COMAND unit. Basically, the vehicle wiring harness is unplugged, then plugged into the iPod harness, then the iPod harness plugs into the COMAND. It's "inserted" into the wiring harness that way. The iPod interface uses the power, AUX in, and CAN bus wiring, but nothing else. The iPod interface does not use the fiber optics, so it has to be plugged directly into the COMAND so as not to be bypassed. This explains the wiring:

What I would do is remove the iPod interface wiring from COMAND, reconnect the fiber, and see if that fixes it. if so, then the fault is in the iPod module. If not, then the COMAND unit was damamged by the short.
