"Hood Open" Malfunction 2004 CLK500

Has anyone experienced any issues with their hood latch sensors? My car is giving me a malfunction message saying "Hood Open" when it's most definitely secured. One of the loops that the latching mechanism attaches to has MAYBE 1mm of play, but I can't see how it would trigger any kind of sensor. The loop I'm referring to is the one on the actual hood on the driver's side. Any ideas?

You may need to adjust it if it has play like that. Or, it might be that the switch inside the latch is not working properly.

I had the same issue . Turned out to be a bad switch . I just disconnected it . There are 2 bolts on the receiver . Just unbolt it and unplug the wire and the message will go away .

Was able to figure out the problem. The small arm wasn't depressing the switch when the hood closed, so I bent that arm in such a way that it would put more pressure on the switch when i closed the hood. Haven't seen the malfunction come up since.

Had this on my 2004 CLK. It was the hood latch that was no good. Cheap part to buy at a junk yard.
