NO LONGER ACTIVE
Yeah, I never liked that on the E-Class coupes. Surely MBZ engineers could have figured out a way to make that part of the rear glass or made that third piece lower, too.

"reliability" as the "quality of being trustworthy or of performing consistently well" isn't the noun that comes into my mind when I think of Range Rover. However in the cabrio version I really feel like a "Ken" ... before divorce

C238 E Coupe

E Coupe in a E400/450 trim is VERY impressive on many levels. A few small things but having a car built on a E platform vs C platform makes a world of difference

Still have the CLK55, but trading one of the Volvo wagons for this :

If my clk550 bites the dust, ill probably replace it with a...............clk550 . Lmao. When my clk500 was totaled out from a deer hit, I got the 550. Not sure I really want to get something different for a daily.

Now, that being said, Ill be adding to my garage too. A C5 Z06 will most likely be my next purchase, followed by a sl63. I could see a 911 if I have enough room too. And if I hit the lottery, Hurican :P

I actually kept my CLK (now it is my son’s car), and purchased a 2015 SLK-350... great car! Initially, I though I would miss the rear seat... but haven’t really.

That is how I feel now. I never liked the SLK until 2012. Having the CLK I feel as if I should go for it all and get the proper 2 seater and be done. After I drove one I had a hard time getting back into a CLK.

13 E550 Coupe & 99 C280
I sadly parted with my 2000 CLK430 last year. It had been my faithful daily driver for 18 years. I bought it @ MB USA auction in 2002 along with my wife's 1999 C280. 291,000 miles of smiles and fun! A HUGE pothole @ 75mph(bent and cracked 2 AMG wheels beyond repair) and a whine from the transmission made me decide to let it go. I searched and searched for another Mars red 2 door coupe, but I ended up finding a 1 owner 32,000 mile 2013 E550 black coupe. The wife and I now have matching color MBs. She will be buried in hers......277,000 miles.

Time to unload...

My 2004 CLK320 Cabriolet is a total pile. I simply cannot even bring myself to put another penny into it. After just 3 years of ownership and $9,000 in repairs I am done. I got it with low miles but it is just a lemon. Now the latest is the hard shifting transmission that will forever be hard shifting makes a whine. Soft top is acting up again. SRS light is on and the add oil light keeps coming on. Car has a wobble at 60mph+ The AC Compressor has gone bad as well. At this point with just under 70,000 miles the car is near worthless. The car has been sitting because I am afraid to drive it as everything keeps going on it. It has been a very miserable experience every mile! I can honestly say I have had not even a mile of pure pleasure. In order to fix everything it would need the value of the car in repairs. Not worth it. In the meantime it sits in the garage until I figure out what to replace it with. No more CLK’s for me. My 09 has been 100% as has my 05 CLK55. But after owning 3 there is no reason for me to ever own another. Time to start looking! Until then who wants a free CLK? Problems included 🤣😂

I am just shocked the lack of quality in early CLK’s. I mean really bad.

Holy crap, that's a lot to go wrong in 70k miles! I guess the car is 17 years old, but still, that's pretty ridiculous.

I'm likely done with Mercedes after my CLK stint. The 550 is a reasonably fast car, and other than a rough-shifting transmission (possibly a solenoid issue), mine has been halfway reasonable in the 2+ years I've owned it. But it had a lot wrong with it when I got it, and a few more things have gone wrong since I've owned it. And mine only has low-80k miles. My next car will probably be a Corvette or a Lexus of some sort. With a small family and a job consuming much of my time, I just don't feel like trying to troubleshoot problems on a car. Unfortunately the used car market is not all that attractive right now (I prefer buying used), so I'm going to hold off until prices level off a bit. Hopefully my CLK will hold up lol.
It was problematic the second I bought it. Small things you except for a older car but simple DIY. Then once the soft top stopped working I took it in and told them go over the entire car tell me what it needs. All that car would do is make the shop owner rich. So now it sits and rots away until I figure out what to buy next. Like yourself I only buy used. I know I lost on this car but it is what it is. Time to move on. I bought my CLK55 AMG coupe the same year and only had one small issue in the years of ownership. The headlight went out lol. Simple fix.

Not sure if I want to get into a E Coupe with the V8 or go for the SL or SLK. Decisions decisions.

Yeah, that sucks that the car didn't work out. Good to know that your 55 has been reliable, though!

Until very recently, I was almost certainly going to upgrade to a 2012-2017 E550 coupe for my next car. The twin turbo motor (forget what nomenclature) is supposedly very reliable, but it's still much more complex than the 550 due to the turbos (more stuff to break and cost money!). Believe it or not, I'm considering a 2005-2006 LS430 lol. The pinnacle of Lexus quality according to some. I figured I want to try one out before they get really old!

I highly recommend an e550 coupe with the turbo v8 if you get the chance. I had one for 5 years, it was great, purchased it CPO with around 30k miles, drove it to over 105k. Biggest problem I had out of warranty was turbo coolant lines at ~100k, somewhere in the $1,500 range to fix, but they would last another 100k miles. Your rear tire budget will go up though...haha. I loved that car, if I didn't find a great deal on my 205 C63 I would still have it, but couldn't afford to keep both.

Thanks for the feedback on the 2012+ E550 coupe. When you say "out of warranty" does that mean that it had problems while under warranty?

And yeah, my CLK550 goes through rear tires fairly quickly, so I'm use to that lol.

Under warranty the only "big" problem I had was the electronic steering lock, common to all 204 based cars. There might have been some small things I don't remember, but other than that, just regular maintenance.

2005 320CLK Cab
The wife's '05 320CLK is at 150K and running strong. It's had no more issues than a car its same age.
Sure, there's things that need to be fixed. The exhaust brackets are almost rusted through, the Glove box opens too far (gotta fix this next).
The only hassle is some seat movement issues - the driver head rest wont go up or down unless I futz inside the seat and then it only last for
a couple days. The seat sometimes wont respond to the movement buttons unless the seat is slammed down into position.

But it's a good car.

It's getting a little long in the tooth. She's fancying something like a Jeep Wrangler. That's quite a change.

Traded my 04 CLK500 for a 16 GLE400 few years ago. Getting ready to trade in the other vehicle 13 Subaru Legacy (wife). I'm waiting for the EQC to be release in the USA. Wife fell in love with the Mercedes Electric vehicles.

EQC will not be coming to the USA unfortunately. We wanted to buy one as well. Already having the ML that we love we were in the hunt for a crossover or SUV. Wife insisted trying the Model X but it was just awful. If I was to buy a EV it would be the EQC. Inquired many times with the dealer and it was the same over and over. No EQC in the USA. Got a super low mileage GLK350 CPO instead.

With the CLK320 Cab long gone the next is the 350 Coupe. Not going to lie. I will not miss it one bit as it is starting to just be a nuisance. I plan on keeping the CLK55 because I feel that it’s worth keeping. Unfortunately I can no longer say the same about my 350. Too many silly little issues for a car not so special.

I just reread my post from 5 years back and so glad I've still kept the CLK550. I'm almost at 195k miles and the only major things gone wrong since then were the radiator, thermostat, fuel pump, rear sam, and passenger side rear window regulator. Besides those, all minor expected things here and there such as normal maintenance items.

I am at 120,000 on my 2009 CLK. Maintenance is not an issue on these cars. Unfortunately some small stuff that breaks and gives you trouble due to cost cutting at the time. I wonder if they ever tested the CLK for extreme weather as the interior of my clk seems to be peeling and melting. Glad I am getting rid of it to be honest. Down to 1. 2005 CLK55 with under 45,000 miles

Definitely was a lot of cost cutting in that era. One of my biggest gripe with these vehicles is no standard lumbar adjustment. Even just a manual adjustment would've been nice. I also wish the seat cushions were perforated. Not fun in the summertime as I imagine you can relate based on your location. Yeah I don't blame you. If I had a V6 variant of this vehicle I wouldn't have kept it this long, just a personal preference. The 550 fun factor is too valuable for me to sell versus what I would get for it on the market. Wow only 45k and it's an 05 55. If it's a coupe then that's one great vehicle you got there as I know the 05 55 coupes are highly desirable. I'd probably never let her go.
