Aftermarket LED Side Marker Question

I was looking at some of these on ebay, and I can't figure out where the third red wire might connect.

Anyone have any guesses?

The listing states that they are "led turn signal lights+position lights", so I guess the third wire must be to control solid/flashing, but I still have no clue where it might connect. Constant power maybe, and the regular red wire would act as the input control?

Normally, the side marker does not flash. maybe you can connect that lead to your turn signal so that it flashes?

Ah, I didn't know that it was just a static light, thanks. Yeah, the extra wire must be to make it flash somehow. I'll prob just stick with a regular clear-colored lense.

Easiest way to find out. Hook the red/black that are on the black connector socket to 12v/ground. Then touch the long red wire to a 12v source. If it does nothing try ground. Should should see what the side marker does. I've seen ones like these that stay white when 12v power is on, but then when a 12v source (long red wire) gets applied they change to amber, or another fuction..etc.

Thanks for the insight there. I think I'm going to pass on them. I just wanted the clear look without much hassle, and those seem like a hassle (running the third wire to some power source). I'll probably just stick with a regular clear lens.

They are hassle free. You'd plug them in normally like you would the others. With those that you listed if you don't want to do anything with the 3rd wire you would simply either clip it off with just enough to put some heatshrink tubing or a piece or electrical tape on it so it's not an bare wire. Or just don't connect that wire at all.

I had the clear side bumper lenses and they always freaking leaked water in them, It was really annoying. Wash the car, then a bulb error would occur and I'd look down and sure enough there was water in the lens. I went through several different buyers/brands, they were all cheap. If we still had the car I'd actually try the above since it looks like a sealed unit and wouldn't get water in it.

Hmmm, something to think about there, thanks. Maybe I'll get them after all.

Btw, I've had problems here and there with leaking lenses over the years as well. I've had success just applying some clear silicone caulking around the seams (carefully, so it's not visible from the exterior of course), and it's always worked.

Same problem here. Recently though had a fender bender requiring new bumper cover and the body shop wouldn't put the aftermarket ones back in, due to insurance, forced me back to the Orange. Haven't tried again since... I do like the clear with the silver tipped Orange bulbs though, still light up orange but look cleaner
