Saw the new 05 cab's in the flesh

My thoughts. While at the dealership to look for a car for the girlfriend (tested the new C230 Sport, review in the c203 section) I saw 2 05 320 cabs and 1 500 cab. The rims/tires on the 320's from last years appearence pkg are very very nice, they look more aggressive than the new AMG rims on the 500's. The new radio and center stack is nicer too but the top buttons on the center stack still light up in amber not blue, I'm not sure about the digital climate control though. It looks as if the 55 will get 18's (geez, the 500 should have 18's and the 55 19's). The extra deck lid spoiler from the 55 looks good on the 320 and 500 cabs. Aside from the all important V8 engine the 320 cab is making a very strong statement. I'm not sure if all the 320 cabs get the new rims/tires but they all had them along with the trunk spoiler. I'm glad they kept the instrument cluster the same only to help ease the pain.

If we really want the new center stack it should be a very easy retrofit as the wiring is already there. Wewould need to purchase a new wood face plate the top switch panel, radio and climate control display. I'm sure its not cheap but easy to do.

So all of the instrumentation is illuminated in blue, but the buttons are still backlit in white/amber? I have a CLK500 Cab on order - due in September - and was very pleased to find out about the updated interiors, but stupid little omissions like this lighting thing I just don't get. Have also read several postings (although no pics yet) that the rims on the 500 don't look that great. Bummer.

Yes the illumination of the upper buttons don't match, I guess they saved some $ on bulbs??? The new amg rims have the shape of the Chrysler logo where all the spokes meet and they just don't look as aggressive as the 320 sport rims. I hope the 500 coupe gets dual exhausts. The car is nicer than the 03-04's but they could have done more to make the whole car more aggressive looking and differentiate it than the 320 sport.
