Should I get 2004-5 320 or newer 350?
Guys, looking for a wife's convertible car, so performance is secondary even though I will also drive it harder once in a while :-). All service and repairs I plan to do myself. I'm leaning towards older M112 engines with 5 speed auto - my 2000 wagon with the same engine/tranny has close to 190,000 miles and running strong with just regular service. But the M272 with 7 speed has much better performance etc. and its easier to find a clean newer car. Of course I would avoid the early VIN 350 cars with the sprocket etc problems. But overall, do you find the 350 as reliable and easy to work on as the 320? If not, what are the most annoying problems? I want to avoid the constant tinkering which e.g. S600 V12 gives me - I have no problem with doing advanced diagnostics and dealer-only type of work myself if needed, but I just want the CLK for trouble free driving :-)
What is your advice? Thanks!

Thanks Rodney, makes sense! But once I've compared the prices, the newer cars are almost double. So I have ended up buying a well maintained 2004 - so far so good :-). Thanks!
