I just discovered the hard way that I have a 254mm wide head unit, instead of the apparently more common 260mm. The android head unit I bought doesn't fit, although it looks like the bolt holes would line up, and it's awfully close. My car is a 2007 CLK 63. Does anyone know what years have the different size head units? Any why Mercedes used 2 different but almost identical setups? Lastly, has anyone been able to modify their car to fit a 260mm head unit in a 254mm opening? I assume to do this correctly would mean swapping the dash, which is way too much work, but I'm mostly curious at this point.

 

this is what I found also, I have 254mm and most of the units are 260. I would be interested to know if you could trim down the 260.. we are only talking 3mm a side..

 

You can but it's a lot more work than you can imagine. It looks acceptable in terms of the upper control panel and climate control fit. It's off by a little on each side.

You also have to dramatically push it in there which can be an issue if you're not careful. I think the majority of android units are 260mm regardless of what their respective manufacturers say.
