2005 CLK 320

Key fob problem

I am new to this forum ,although I have read here in the past to find fixes to issues I have had. My key fob only works if I hold it next to the door handle. I installed a new battery ,never fixed it. Checked the fuse #8 and it is fine. Seems like some kind of antenna not receiving signal. Any suggestions. All yea. It's a 2005 CLK 320 convertible.

NO LONGER ACTIVE

Maybe the antenna has become disconnected? It's plugged into the windshield wiring, behind the front right A pillar trim.

I took the car to AC audio (they are my local audio shop , been doing radios for over 30 years)to have a radio install done a while back. They took out the radio to do a install that they found out they could not do because of the fiberoptic cable. Could they have unplugged something while doing that (antenna) and now my key fob has this problem.
