2004 CLK 200K Elegance Park Brake Replacement

To all MB World Members,

I'm not sure if the main hub locking nut ( 30mm star) needs removing or not. If it does I will need torque wrench and the correct psi to retighten. Even with the wheel removed and on further inspection, where the drum that houses the park brake shoes meets the rim that the alloys sit on, I am not sure if it will separate at this junction or if it's one solid unit. If the drum and rim is all one complete unit, the 30mm star nut will need taking off to remove the drum/hub.

I have seen a video tutorial of a MB E W124 were the drum comes off without removing the hub locking nut and but a video of a 2000 SLK230 which looks similar to the W209 system, the owner removes the central star locking nut. I've not found a video for a 2004 W209 and from the physical inspection, I am not sure if the drum will separate were it meets the rim that the alloys sits on.

Any advice, pictures or links to the correct tutorial would be very much appreciated.

Regards to all,

BazUK.

Drum and Rim alloys sit on. Is this one solid unit or does it separate at the junction - end of screwdriver.

It separates where your screwdriver is pointed.

Do not take the lock nut off.
Remove that torx screw out and spray liquid wrench(or equivalent) liberally around it and inside the holes if necessary.

You might need to tap it out from behind with a mallet.

Hi Agent-A01,
Just needed the reassurance before I make a start. Also saves me having to hunt down a torque wrench and star socket!
Thanks for the advice.
BazUK.
