electrical connection to thermostat

2009 CLK350 with 115,000 miles.
Code P0128 popped up so I bought a new thermostat from FCPeuro. When I removed the engine cover I noticed was the electrical connection at the thermostat was completely covered with a grey crusty substance. I was able to remove most of this with a plastic bristle brush. However when I tried to release the connection's lock with a flat screwdriver, the lock broke and the plastic 'male' part of the connection broke at the thermostat. The new thermostat has this 'male' part intact, so I spent a lot of time trying to salvage the the corresponding 'female' part using a pick and brush to remove the grey crusty mess, but I think it is too corroded.
Can I buy a new connection for the existing cable? Can I get a new cable with connections for the thermostat and at the other end? Where is the other end? Ok to splice a cable with a good, clean connection from a wrecked car to my existing cable?
What harm will be caused if I drive without the cable connected. The engine warms normally, the temp is about 80C, and no leaks.
thanks,

thanks,
After searching the MBWorld site, I found what looked to be the part number (A 029 545 10 26) for the electrical connector. However every pic of this part shows it to be straight, but the connector on my car has a 90 degree bend. Can someone please help me determine the correct part number?
thank you

0295451026 became 0225451926 and the design changed slightly. It will still work.

Thanks, Kyle

I picked up the parts from the MB dealer today
1-coupling housing part number 029-545-10-26
2-contact bushing part number 000-982-30-26
2-gasket part number 001-545-50-80

and thanks to the young parts specialist, Sean, who identified the necessary parts.

I am eager to rebuild this connector this weekend.
