2004 CLK320 Cabriolet
CLK320 Convertible Top Woes

I have a 2004 CLK320 Cabriolet. On average, it's been in the shop for various reasons about once a month since I bought it. Most of the problems have been minor (the Keyless Go stopped responding, the tumblers in the driver door lock didn't work, weather stripping was peeling away, the roll bar deployed while accelerating uphill, etc.) But now the hydraulic system for the soft top has failed. The dealer originally diagnosed the problem as a failed pump. After 2 weeks, they obtained a replacement pump. They installed it, powered it up, and blew 3 hoses. A week later, they received a second pump and all new hoses. But they still can't fix it. Now they say they need an o-ring and can't identify the part number to order it. They're waiting for a callback from a specialist in New Jersey to help them identify and obtain the correct part. Has anyone else experienced this kind of trouble?

I was also considering getting Sirius satellite radio. But the service rep told me they'd have to install a box-shaped antenna on the trunk lid. If that's true, I won't do it. I also read it was possible to enable TV on some COMAND systems. But my COMAND has a SAT button where the TV button would be. Can COMAND have both Satellite and TV?

Sorry that you're having so much trouble. In regards to the antenna, I've heard that for the cabrio's the antenna is hidden under the trunk lid while for the coupe's this is not the case. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes, the CLK Cabriolet has a composite trunk deck which permits the use of a special antenna that is mounted under the deck. I'm not sure if the same antenna is used on the 2004 b/c the first time they tried to install Sirius on our 2005 the parts were different and had to be ordered. Apparently the revised Command system in the 2005 requires different parts. FYI, the Sirius radio is my wife's favorite feature (she hasn't even loaded any CDs in the changer yet b/c there are so many choices on the SAT radio).

I was planning to install Sirius on my 2004 E, but I don't want the ugly antenna drilled through the trunk (I know that others have hidden the antenna). I'm going to wait a bit until the aftermarket antennas for XM and Sirius shrink some more. In the meantime, I'm going to use the AUX jack to hook up a new Ipod.
