Close Boot/Trunk Separator - A bit different!
My CLK went into a paintshop for some work recently and they couldn't get the top to come down. Said that they had a 'Close boot' (trunk) warning on dash. I asked if they meant 'Close boot separator' and they said no. My separator had a broken spindle anyway and they announced that they had fixed that but that the message was still preventing them lowering the roof.
Cut a long story short, I've finally had 5 minutes to have a look. The separator now moves well and isn't wobbly, the struts feel fine too, but I continue to get the 'Close boot separator' message.
On closer inspection, the stub that is meant to hit the microswitch is nowhere near it! I've attached a photo. The boot separator itself appears to be centred correctly with a similar gap to either side, so has my stub broken or is the microswitch missing an offset or is there a way to adjust the boot separator to the microswitch side so that it locates correctly?
I'm not saying this is the problem that they encountered, but I need to tick this box before I try lowering the roof again, to see if I get this 'Close boot' message that they reckon they had.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
The photo is from behind the boot separator looking towards the rear of the car. You can see that the stub is not going anywhere near the microswitch (Its out by almost 10mm):
