Is it ME?

Just purchased an 04 CLK500, my first Mercedes.

After about 20 miles noticed what can be best described as a "throaty warbling" sound that increases/decreases with engine RPM. Not quite a knocking, not quite a ticking. Almost sounds like a valve lifter from the old days, or at least that was what I think it sounds very much like.

Took it to the dealer and of course it wasn't as noticable and what we did hear didn't seem to be out of the ordinary to them. They checked the puter for errors, reflashed etc.

Drove it 1,000 miles yesterday and still have it.

Is it ME? or is this to be expected?

Thanks for any feedback.

Phil

Go back to your dealer and compare it to another 500.

The MB 3 valve engines do have noisy valve trains.

will be running for a bit and see if it gets better or worse and if its something i'll have to live with.

thanks for the input.

Just one of lifes little annoyances,
