Hi All
I am desperate for some help - I am losing the will to carry on. Brought an 03 CLK 55 W209 with 67k for £4000 a few months back.
4 weeks ago I was driving and got the battery warning message in the cluster. Battery went flat and had to get car recovered.
Got car home up on ramps. Replaced alternator with a LUCAS alternator from Euro Car Parts (£300). Hooked up and ran - still getting the warning message in cluster.
Changed the battery out with a new 100ah YUASA battery.
Still getting the warning on the cluster.
Chucked a multimeter on - positive on back of alternator - when engine ISNT running I get 12v. When engine is running I am getting 10.7v.
Also - to get the alternator out I had to change the radiator and A/C condenser as they were bent (car had unrecorded front end in the past). I've stretched the lower radiator rubber o-ring, can anyone point me in the direction of getting a new one).
Also - I lost a load of transmission oil when the radiator was off (I ran the engine with pipes disconnected after id changed the alternator which was daft - anyone know what transmission oil I need to get?)
Is it worth me running the engine with the alternator LIVE disconnected and measuring the output without the cars load on the alternator? I brought the alternator as NEW from euro's but what I got looked like a reconditioned one?
