W209 Body Control Module
Hello, looking for some in depth tech help and possible answers.
I bought a 2004 CLK320 a few months ago, it’s plans are to be a project car as I got it for super cheap. It’s got 200k kilometres on it (125k miles roughly) and I wanted to remove the engine, trans and differential to swap it all out for something a bit more fun.
not sure what engine/drivetrain combo I want to go with, but that’s irrelevant. There are a number of options in that respect.
what I would like to know is: if I was to remove the engine, trans, and diff, with their respective electronics (ECU, ecu, and wire harness, dash, etc), would there be any issues regarding all other functions in the car?
the radio and center console will be removed and replaced with other controls, perhaps air ride controls. The dash would be replaced with either a screen or analogue gauges of sorts.
Would the windows/sunroof, door locks, trunk release headlight switch and all other functions work? Or will the body control module lose its mind not seeing the ECU/TCU?
is there a way to bypass it?
all answers are appreciated. Please no responses of “why are you doing this?” “Why not buy a different car?” Etc. I love the look of the CLK, always have. Don’t want the v6, don’t want an automatic, don’t want the 63 V8 nor would I even touch a CLK63 or CLK63 BS. they’re rare enough as is.

There are lot's of options even with keeping stock-ish ecu.
1. Transmission:
You can swap manual transmission even into you clk320. Take a look at my thread. It's step-by-step instruction including ECU coding.
2. V6 problem:
You can swap all kind of V8s: 4.3/5.0/5.4/5.4 supercharged (any Mercedes m113 engine) and keep almost all original electronics. Right now I'm looking for a good 5.0 to swap into my clk320 (it should work with my manual transmission).
If you want to get something like supercharged v8 + manual transmission in my thread I mentioned couple of options including BMW manual transmission (with bell-housing adaptors).
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
