Dependability question
Dependability question
And a Happy Tuesday. I have an ‘08 CLK550 with just at 179k on the odometer. The car has been almost flawless during my ownership. I rebuilt the entire front end at 110k, secondary air pump at 140k, and routine maintenance. That’s it (other than eating tires).
so, now the master cylinder is failing and The ESP system will occasionally become inop so the cruise doesn’t work until I shut the car off and restart.
here is the issue - she’s 12 years old, body in excellent shape, interior is great and I love how the car looks and runs, but I’m becoming apprehensive.
what, in your experience, are some fail items I might expect? Thinking of trading, but really don’t want to part with it. Book value is only $3,500 or so and the car really doesn’t owe me a thing.
and Go -

My 07 550 is right at 200K. I have replaced cam plugs, sensors, oil cooler, fuel tank transfer pump, radiator, ECU, rear wheel bearing, air-oil separator, and steering rack bushings. Of course there have been the consumables... rotors, brakes, tires, plugs, oil, etc. You can see the mods in the signature.
It is my test car for an exhaust project that has consumer 4 years of retirement. Most of the engine run time is at ~2000 RPM. It burns oil, particularly under juvenile driving conditions. But it doesn't leak any oil anyplace. I will be looking for another toy car in a year or so but I do not plan to trade the CLK. I just love the car. I will retain it as a test car. After testing, I will probably need to rebuild (have it done) the engine. BTW, it goes like a bat out of a hot place and able to respond to my every command.
Given my driving habits, the time and miles, and the smiles on my wrinkling juvenile face, I have no regrets....
